Strathfield’s Paul Donovan returns to the pavilion unbeaten on 120no

In a day when records were smashed, Strathfield’s opening batsmen had a field day on the first day of their match against North West Sydney.
In First Grade, both openers, Sean Reynolds (130) and Paul Donovan (120no) put on an exciting batting dislay as they took to the entire Norwest attack.
Sean Reynolds rode his luck and peppered the boundary with 18 x 4s and 1 x 6 in his century.
Paul Donovan batted throughout the innings and chalked up his maiden 1st grade century to remain 120no when Strathfield declared their innings at 4/315.  Strathfield’s bowlers then took to the Nor west batting line up and at stumps the Gorillas looked well placed to secure another victory with their opponents becalmed at 5/55.
Donovan and Reynolds opening partnership of 188 broke a 10 year old record and becomes the Club’s best 1st Grade opening partnership.
Not to be outdone Strathfield 4th Grade openers went even better and their opening partnership broke all records for openers across all grades. The unbroken 271 partnership saw both Roshit Ravindran (144no) and skipper Satinder Singh (107no) post centuries. Again a declaration saw the batting hi jinks concluded and in the remaining 7 overs Strathfield have NorWest already struggling at 1/11.
There were good results in both 2nd and 3rd Grade with both likely to improve their premiership positions with wins.  Second Grade already has 6 points in the bank at 2/134 surpassing Norwest’s 133. John D’Elia was the standout with the bat at 79no.
In 3rd Grade Michael Redman’s 63no guided Strathfield to 6/153 in reply to Norwest’s 85. Three wickets each went to James Redman, Dhanush Devidas and Dipen Patel.
Strathfield will be looking to maximum points next week.
