The general age rule for cricket is based on your child's age on 31st August. If your son or daughter is 12 years old on 31 August, he/she will play Under 13.
Since CWSCA only has U11, U13, U15, U17 competitions, your child may need to play up an age group. For e.g. both U12 and U13 will compete in the U13 competition, U14 and U15 will compete in the U15 competition.
If your child is aged 8 or 9, then he/she will be playing Stage 1 Cricket, especially if you are a beginner player.
If you have a child aged 5-7, look up the Junior Blaster program which focuses on basic skill development in a fun environment. The Master Blasters program is available on weekdays for kids aged 7-10 and is a suitable progression from Junior Blasters.Boys and girls aged 8 and above are invited to play Junior Cricket. Its is recommended that the participant has completed either Junior Blasters or Master Blasters before playing Junior Cricket as this will make the transition easier. Visit the Junior Formats page for a summary of the playing conditions.U17 competition will proceed only if sufficient registrations are received. All other age groups will have a confirmed junior season.
If you are playing Stage 1 (ages 8 to 10), we recommend that you use the gear provided in the team kit.If you are U11 or above, it is recommended that you have your own kit. This also allows players to practice outside formal practice sessions.
You are required to purchase white cricket trousers and a protector(boys only).Sunscreen is essential as we will play through some hot days. Bring a bottle of water to ensure your child remains hydrated during play.
The club will provide a playing shirt and cap.
Game gear (helmets, gloves, pads, bats, wicket-keeping pads and gloves, protector, wickets, score-book, clicker, measure, mallet, first aid kit etc
U13 and above - Players to bring their own gear. All ground setup and wicket keeping gear will be provided.
Teams are formed taking into account a variety of factors such as player ages, capability, availability of coaches and volunteers. The team will be placed in a division which best suits the playing ability of the team as a whole. U11 - U15 can compete in two divisions (Div 1 &2)
Playing up age groups - Any requests to play up is looked on favourably if the player is deemed capable of fitting in with the higher age groups. (e.g. CWSCA representative players from last season, outstanding performance with SCC in last season)Playing down age groups - This is discouraged and will be considered only if the child will absolutely does not have the capacity to play with his/her age group. In both scenarios, the parent is required to email the club with reasons as to why they believe their child will fit into the requested age group and mention that they are willing to accept all risks with doing so.
Requests for playing with friends/family - We understand this is important and will be accommodated if there are vacancies in the team and players are of similar ability. If this is critical to continuing the season, please contact us to discuss options available.
Requests for playing in Division 1 - This will depend on playing ability and vacancies present.
Part-time players - In view of team stability, the club can offer part-time positions only to a limited number of players. We accept registrations, but your spot is confirmed only after team selection day. In all cases, a position is not guaranteed but all requests will be given due consideration during team formation. The selection committee may also request all or selected players to undergo a trial.
Priority is always given to full time players in their correct age-groups.
Teams for U13-U17 will be finalised around mid August and Stage 1-U11 around mid September.
Cricket season starts in Spring and we play through to the end of Summer.Stage 1 and U11 will start after Term 3 holidays and finish in March.U13 onwards will start in mid September and finish in March.
We do not play during school holidays, but there might the a rare match coinciding with the start or end of term holidays.
Note - There are changes to this model from this season 2019/2020. NSW DCA comp for U12-U16 is confirmed. This section will be updated once more info is available.
