Junior Cricket is played on Saturday mornings, generally starting at 8.30am and finishing about 12.30pm. All teams from Under 10 and older use leather balls, pads and helmets and all the equipment similar to seniors. Under 9's use a softer ball.
U9-U11 play a modified form of the game offering every player an equal opportunity to bowl, bat and field.
We play against teams from the Canterbury & Western Suburbs Cricket Association, which includes teams from Punchbowl in the west to Tempe in the east and from Clemton Park/Roselands in the south to Balmain/Concord West in the north.
As with all other volunteer organisations our Club prospers through the help of our volunteers. Our coaches, managers, scorers are parents who volunteer to ensure their kids get a game of cricket. Without the help of our parents we would be unable to provide the cricket the kids deserve each week. We urge you to volunteer in some capacity, whatever that may be. The Club will assist with training for coaching and umpiring but there are many other jobs that require no formal training from scoring to managing to Club communication. Don't wait to be asked, please put your hand up to help.
The Club provides a team kit for the younger age groups but as the age groups advance it is recommended that players have their own gear. In order of importance that would be protector, helmet, bat, gloves, pads. That also allows players to practice outside formal practice sessions.
The Club will provide a Strathfield CC playing shirt and cap, but players will need to provide pants (white/cream trousers/shorts) and cricket shoes - or predominantly white trainers or rubber-soled shoes. Sunscreen is essential as we will play through some hot days. It is suggested that each player has his own water bottle to ensure he remains hydrated during play.
